Strong magnetic field in W75N OH maser flare

چکیده

A flare of OH maser emission was discovered in W75N in 2000. Its location was determined with the VLBA to be within 110 au from one of the ultra-compact H II regions, VLA2. The flare consisted of several maser spots. Four of the spots were found to form Zeeman pairs, all of them with a magnetic field strength of about 40 mG. This is the highest ever magnetic field strength found in OH masers , an order of magnitude higher than in typical OH masers. Three possible sources for the enhanced magnetic field are discussed: (a) the magnetic field of the exciting star dragged out by the stellar wind; (b) the general interstellar field in the gas compressed by the MHD shock; and (c) the magnetic field of planets which orbit the exciting star and produce maser emission in gaseous envelopes.

Methanol masers probing the ordered magnetic field of W75N

Context. The role of magnetic fields during the protostellar phase of high-mass star-formation is a debated topic. In particular, it is still unclear how magnetic fields influence the formation and dynamic of disks and outflows. Most current information on magnetic fields close to high-mass protostars comes from H2O and OH maser observations. Recently, the first 6.7 GHz methanol maser polarizat...

Total linear polarization in the OH maser W 75 N : VLBA polarization structure

W75N is a star-forming region containing various ultracompact HII regions and OH, H 2 O, and CH 3 OH maser emission. Our VLBA map shows that the OH masers are located in a thin disk rotating around an O-star which is the exciting star of the ultracompact HII region VLA1. A separate set of maser spots is connected with the ultracompact HII region VLA2. The radial velocity of OH maser spots varie...

Maser maps and magnetic field of OH 300 . 969 + 1 . 147

The southern maser site OH 300.969+1.147 has been studied using the Long Baseline Array of the Australia Telescope National Facility. The 1665and 1667-MHz hydroxyl ground-state transitions were observed simultaneously. A series of maps with tenth-arcsec spatial resolution, at velocity spacing 0.09 km s, and in both senses of circular polarization, reveal 59 small diameter maser spots. The spots...

Extended OH(1720 MHz) Maser Emission from Supernova Remnants

Compact OH(1720 MHz) masers have proven to be excellent signposts for the interaction of supernova remnants with adjacent molecular clouds. Less appreciated has been the weak, extended OH(1720 MHz) emission which accompanies strong compact maser sources. Recent single-dish and interferometric observations reveal the majority of maser-emitting supernova remnants(SNRs) have accompanying regions o...

Methanol Maser Polarization in W3(OH)

We present the first 6.7 GHz methanol maser linear polarization map of the extended filamentary maser structure around the compact H region W3(OH). The methanol masers show linear polarization up to ∼ 8 per cent and the polarization angles indicate a magnetic field direction along the North-South maser structure. The polarization angles are consistent with those measured for the OH masers, ta...
